Swimming, Mr Gargallo is aiming high: “We want to do well in the FIN circuit”.
The Swimming Team is preparing for important commitments. In Rome and around Italy, there are many matches that will soon involve the team coached by Andrea Gargallo. During a training session at the Monumentale Swimming pool of the Foro Italico, we interviewed the coach, who spoke to us about the condition of our players, introducing us to the challenges on the agenda.
Mister, let’s start from the next commitments…
As for the FIN circuit (Italian Swimming Federation), the races will be 23 and 24 March. Then we will go to the province of Milan, 13 and 14 April, for the first trip of the season. After that, on May 5 we will return to compete in the circuit UISP (Unione Italiana Sport Per Tutti, ed) in Monterotondo, in the province of Rome. The last race of the season will be on 26 May, again for the FIN circuit.
Among these commitments, which is the most important?
Let’s say that the races of the FIN circuit tend to be harder than the others. The meeting we are going to attend on 13 and 14 April is particularly important, both because it is a trip – and as such increasingly demanding – and because it is considered an important commitment by all competitors.
How is the preparation of the boys going?
Very well. In this period we are facing a phase of athletic loading and then, in the vicinity of the races, have a discharge. In doing so, we’ll get into shape at the races.
At this point in the season, what are the goals already achieved?
The group is very compact and this is a great goal for me. The participation is constant, even in difficult periods from the point of view of the study. This means that the guys are very committed and motivated. It’s hard to talk about other goals we’ve achieved: so far we’ve only competed in one race, but we really have a lot on the agenda.
So what are the goals to be achieved by the end of the season?
Doing well in the FIN circuit – more difficult than the UISP one – is certainly the real competitive goal we set ourselves.
How are the guys doing? What is the mood of the group?
The boys’ mood is very good. Being a university team, often the mood of the individual also depends on the progress of academic commitments. It is normal that, for example under exams, the boys get more tired at training. But since they are all very smart and intelligent, they are able to manage very well the double path that they have undertaken.
Let’s thank Mr Gargallo and wish the lads the best of luck in view of the many games that await them!
