“Padel is a magical sport,” coach Marcello Macioce’s word.

The Luiss Sports Association welcomes Marcello Macioce, the new Padel master. A discipline that he loves and to which he will also make our student-athletes passionate. For the occasion, he told us a little more about the sport of the moment.

Marcello, how do you explain the great success that padel is having?

Simple: it’s easy to learn and there’s a lot of social involvement, if the instructors know how to do their job well. In addition, there is a lot of interest from former footballers and VIPs that started in 2019, with the first edition of the Gillette Padel VIP Cup, which started a steady growth.

How did you get started in padel?

One day, in 2016, a friend of mine suggested I go and play and from there I haven’t stopped.

How are you preparing for the championship?

I try to instill in the boys passion, team spirit and awareness of their abilities to achieve the maximum goals. We train twice a week in groups of 4 and we do exercises to improve technique and learn tactics and game strategy.

Many people believe that padel is for people who can’t play tennis. What are your thoughts on this?

Padel is a magical sport. The tennis player definitely has an advantage, but the technique is very different and coordination is very important.

Can you introduce us to the Luiss team in a few words?

The team has 12 members: 4 girls and 8 boys. Wonderful people, very good, determined and with a great desire to get involved.
