Rugby, Luiss Avio meets Arieti Rugby’s determination

On Sunday, December 11, in the second day of the Serie C Championship, Luiss Avio suffered its first defeat of the season: 36-13 was the final result in favor of Arieti Rugby.
The guests started off strong and scored a try in the first minute of the game, thanks to a defensive error by the hosts.
Coach Granatelli’s boys try to react against Rieti’s strong pressure and score the first points thanks to a free kick by Rossi.
Luiss Avio tries to play its rugby, but meets a well-organized team that, in the first 40′ will score three more goals, bringing the result at halftime on 24-6, also accomplice a yellow card for Mancinelli.
In the resumption, the young university team reared its head again and showed greater determination: very good throws in the lineout and a discrete test also in the orderly scrum.
The Arieti did not lower their level of play and continued to press the Luiss attack, which, midway through the second half, managed, after a good phase of play, to score the only goal of the day with opening halfback Rossi.
In the final, the guests scored again, bringing the final score to 36-13.
Despite the defeat, there are several positive indications for the coaching staff: the game improves Sunday after Sunday, very good static phases (scrums and touches) and good overall team organization. Lots of starters in yesterday’s XV that fought until the end against a Rieti team that proved to be superior.
On Wednesday, Dec. 14, the team will meet again at the camp for training before a short break for the Christmas vacations.
The Luiss Avio will return to league play on Sunday, Jan. 22 when they receive the Frosinone Bisons.
