AS Luiss Sustainability Model
Sport is a founding element of society—not only as a physical practice aimed at individual well-being, but also as a powerful vehicle for spreading universal values, building communities, and nurturing both individual growth and meaningful relationships. Among the values that sport inherently promotes are equality, respect for rights, inclusion, peacebuilding, the strengthening of friendships, and fair play—essential elements in creating a cohesive and supportive society.
With this awareness, Luiss University has, for over 25 years, integrated sport within the academic community with the goal of effectively embedding these principles across faculty, staff, and students. Based on this powerful shared foundation—rooted in the value system that sport fosters—AS Luiss has over time developed a structured and interconnected model, which has grown over more than two decades like a living organism, thanks to high-impact initiatives and projects shaped by a long-term strategic vision.
The metaphor of the tree, embodied by the Luiss Sport Lab, structured into three macro-areas (Human, Sports, and Corporate), has given rise to the AS Luiss Sustainability Tree. This tree represents a dynamic balance and a development path that, starting from its roots, through a solid trunk and an increasingly lush canopy, reflects the strength, growth, and diversification of every single initiative.
- The roots lie deep in the founding values that have inspired the vision of AS Luiss.
- The trunk represents the increasingly broad organizational, strategic, and governance structure that has sustained its growth over the years.
- The canopy is made up of the many initiatives—whether large or small—that align with the original vision and form the mosaic of a grand act of planning.
Through this long-standing development journey, AS Luiss has created a model of sustainable growth. Even before the emergence of Agenda 2030, the foundational vision of AS Luiss in 1998 already embraced principles that are now embedded in the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Thanks to an integrated approach, each project developed by AS Luiss is a piece of a broader mosaic that defines and enriches a now highly evolved universe of social, environmental, and good governance responsibility (ESG). In doing so, AS Luiss actively contributes to building a more equitable and sustainable future, both locally and—more and more—globally.
This document therefore does not merely compile and describe the activities and projects of the Luiss Sports Association; it aims to outline the lifecycle of a project—from its conception to its implementation and results—demonstrating the deep inspiration drawn from sustainability in its broadest, most noble, and holistic sense. As framed by Agenda 2030, this goes beyond the traditional environmental dimension and looks toward the human dimension and its values.
The goal is to provide a concise yet meaningful account of the positive impact of the initiatives promoted, their alignment with specific sustainable development goals, and the ongoing commitment to combining advanced education, training, sport, research, and sustainability.
