Top Athletes, the motto of Luigi Musumeci: “I bring the studio to the field and vice versa”.
Luigi Musumeci from Catania, born in Catania in 2001, is one of the young talents of the Italian 5-a-side soccer team. He comes from an experience on loan to Lazio, this year he decided to return to his hometown to play the Serie A1 and helps the Under 19. In parallel with his career as a footballer, he undertook an academic career in Luiss, proud to be part of the roster of our Top Athletes.
Luigi, what are you studying and what made you choose Luiss?
I am enrolled in the Degree Course in Economics and Management. During high school, thanks to the alternation school-work, I approached the business world and now I’m very curious about it. I want to give my best in studying as well as in sport.
Do you think that being an athlete can somehow help you in your studies?
Dual Career allows me to take study to the field and vice versa. The sport teaches you how to organize and manage yourself. You get used to the sacrifices and stress. All qualities that are also needed in books. In the same way, what I learn while studying helps me grow as a person and as an athlete.
Difficulties and advantages of combining academic and sports careers?
The difficulties are mainly related to the time available. The advantages, on the other hand, are personal enrichment, due to the notions you learn. Growth, however, is also remarkable on a human level. I am thinking, for example, of the comparison with the teachers, the advice and teachings that can be received.
How exciting is it for you to be part of AS Luiss?
Without a doubt, it is a great honor. The Luiss world gives you the opportunity to travel the two paths in parallel, putting you in a position to make the most of it. I’m very happy with the choice, because I pursue important goals here.
What are the short-term ones?
I hope to be able to graduate on time: I closed the first year giving all the exams and I am charged for the second. Once this cycle is over, I would like to continue with a master’s degree. I am thinking about the various possibilities, at the right time I will decide what to do. As for the sport, I hope to do well here in Catania, both with the first team and the Under 19.
Sorry to have left Lazio?
The experience in biancoceleste was important to grow up away from home. If there hadn’t been a pandemic, I would have gladly stayed at Lazio. Also because in this way I could have continued to follow the lessons in presence. We will see what the future holds for me.
We thank Luigi Musumeci and wish him the best of luck for his two careers!
