The fairy tale Luiss Basket: promoted to Serie A2!

A ride that lasted ten months, with the most beautiful epilogue: our basketball team reached Serie A2. In Italy, it is the first time that a team made up only of students reaches this high!

Coach Andrea Paccariè’s student athletes had an incredible season: from the record of away victories (11 out of 15) to the almost unbeatable PalaLuiss (only one team, Sant’Antimo, managed to win at the PalaLuiss). Not to mention the feats against Ruvo, Taranto, Avellino and the fantastic victory against Sant’Antimo despite a roster decimated by defections.

After closing the regular season at the top of the standings, the boys had to overcome – in the playoffs – first Ozzano, defeated 3 games to 1, and then Fabriano, in a series that ended only in Game 5 after an epic match, not suitable for faint of heart.

And so, to their great surprise and against all odds, they earned their pass for the Final Four on 16-17-18 June in Ferrara, where the best four teams in the championship gathered: in addition to Luiss, there were Vigevano , Real Sebastiani Rieti and Orzinuovi.

The debut could not have been more beautiful: victory against Real Sebastiani Rieti for 69 to 65 (with Rieti beaten for the first time by Luiss in 25 years of history). The following day it was Vigevano’s turn, with another sensational game to say the least, marked by a comeback by Fallucca, who scored 35 points, breaking another record: no one in Luiss had ever scored so much in a single game.

On the last day against Orzinuovi came the 78-79 defeat but, thanks to the two previous victories, Luiss Basket managed to achieve the ambitious goal: PROMOTION IN SERIES A2!
