Mottola says goodbye to Luiss: “It was a school of life. Guys, don’t let go now.
Alessandro Mottola is one of the senators of the Football Promotion team. Former captain, current vice-captain and, above all, author of one of the historic goals of AS Luiss: the one that led to victory in the Italian Cup Final. A goal that is the icing on a cake represented by hundreds of games with our jersey. But all the stories, even the most beautiful ones, have an end. For Alessandro, to whom we wish the best, the time has come to greet him. This is his heartfelt message to the team, which he leaves after a long time and which he loads in view of the season finale.
“What to say… Six years is a long time: it is a path of growth, human and professional. An intense path made of victories, defeats, falls and ascents. I didn’t count them, but I honoured, fought and defended this jersey more than 200 times. Not many goals (a few years ago I did more), but I certainly can’t forget the one in the final round of the Lazio Cup that led us to victory and category leap. A category jump that allowed the group, the university and the management to take a big step forward in terms of possibilities and management of the team.
Luiss Calcio is something different from anything else. When you enter you are a student, young, carefree and with a great desire to do. You realize that studying and playing is not something for everyone: sacrifices, impossible hours, constant commitment for 10 months a year. All this, however, involves the achievement of personal and group goals. It’s a gym of life.
Then comes the degree, the first job and you continue because the passion for football, for being in a group is stronger than everything else. You keep growing and together with you the group grows. Many people find jobs far away and leave, but every now and then you can find them on the stands on Sundays to support you. A lot of young guys join the team and you start to understand the difference between the generations. You start to understand that you have reached a certain maturity and that you must always conquer the place. Being senior doesn’t have any advantages, on the contrary, training is always more difficult, tiring and you’re not always as brilliant as when you were 25.
Then comes the day you have to leave because the job is offered elsewhere. You already know that when you accept that proposal you will have to leave your teammates, your team, your friends, your training sessions and the Sunday match that has always given you unique emotions. You don’t have to look back because it was all beautiful, unique and unforgettable. The important thing is how we lived it, always intensely. But today, Now it’s the present that counts.
I have to end with a message to my teammates: let’s never give up. Six games divide us from a dream, a dream that has grown within us this year game after game, training after training. We fight together as if we had one heart and one soul. I trust you! Let’s believe it, guys, until the end.
Thank you very much to the University, to the Sports Association.
Al Founder and project manager Leo Cisotta, to the managers: Giovanni, Emanuele, Fabio, Fiorenzo, Giorgio, Alessandro, Francesco, Gino, Sergio.
To Mr Roberto Rambaudi and Simone Rambaudi.
Good luck to my group, to my team, to my friends.
Let’s never give up. Always with you.
Alessandro Mottola
