Swimming, lots of medals for the Luiss Swim Team in the Master Babel Trophy

Last weekend saw the 2nd Babel Master Trophy held in the splendid setting of the Babel Sports Centre. For the Luiss Swim Team it was the debut in the master circuit FIN (Italian Swimming Federation).

A debut expected as challenging, in a context more challenging than the UISP competitions (Italian Union of Sports For All). Despite the high degree of difficulty, the team has exceeded expectations. The words of Mr. Gargallo, who had defined a seasonal goal of “doing well in FIN races”, sound prophetic.

The rain of medals starts from the first race in the program: the 50 backstroke in which Andrea Cerrocchi triumphs. Our athlete won the highest step of the podium thanks to an excellent 28.97. Carolina Rubino, on the other hand, was good at finishing third in the women’s race, despite her preference for the distance of 200. In the 50 dolphins immediately another medal: performance by applause of Luigi Perricone who wins the silver.

Exciting race in the 100 male frogs: Edoardo Cortopassi and Emanuele Greco staged a spectacular head to head, closing respectively in 1.09.37 and 1.09.41. Amazing results obtained also thanks to the indications of the Technical Director Alessandro Terrin, former athlete of international level in the specialty. The afternoon session of Saturday ends with the 2nd position in the 200 style of Sofia Malagnino.

In the second day of competitions continue to arrive medals. Emanuele Greco scores a double 50-100 in the frog thanks to an irresistible progression in the 50-meter return tank. Magnificent encore also for Andrea Cerrocchi, specialist of the back, winner of the 100 in 1.02.03. With a surprising bronze he is accompanied on the podium by the athlete and Team Manager Cosmo Lucreziano, butterfly swimmer lent for the occasion to the backstroke.

The highly anticipated 100 style does not disappoint expectations. Sofia Malagnino also discovers himself as a sprinter by winning the race in 1.03.05. Extraordinary performances, in the men’s race, for Alberto Crosato and Mauro Immediato who triumph in their respective categories. Alberto closes with 53.89 after a passage “kamikaze” in the top 50, Mauro prints 54.23 thanks to an impressive change of pace in the second part.

The third and last session starts with the 50 style, queen race of speed. After the successes of the double distance, Alberto Crosato and Mauro Immediato confirm themselves among the top sprinters, gaining second and third position. Beautiful bronze for Luigi Perricone in the 100 dolphins, which enhances his qualities as a pure sprinter. A podium conquered more with the heart than with the arms.

The festival of the iridati closes with the fantastic golden double of Edoardo Cortopassi. After a race all attack, our athlete stamps a stellar 2.31.73 in the 200 frog.

An unforgettable weekend, both in terms of timing and number of podiums. The rich spoils of medals at the end closes at 16: 9 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze.

Top 10 finishes also for Michela Rudelli (100 and 200 style), Francesco Canu (50 and 100 style), Marco Albano (50 and 100 style) and Marco Impagnatiello (50 style). The latter, fresh from graduation, wanted to be present to give his contribution to the team.

Last but not least, applause for the precious work of Team Manager Gloria Tarantino, who these days has dedicated herself to her great passion, photography.

Team Luiss, proud of the results achieved, gives appointment to the next competition: the 13th Trofeo Master Città di Legnano. The prestigious stage of the FIN circuit will take place on April 14th.
