B league basketball, Luiss Roma signs feat at Sant’Antimo and closes out 2022 on a high note

A heroic victory, a victory that tastes stronger, more intense than the others. On Sunday, Dec. 18, Luiss Roma plays a game that promotes it to a top team. Paccariè’s boys routed the undefeated Sant’Antimo court 82-85 and climbed to third place.
Luiss, deprived of its point guard Pasqualin who remained in Rome with the flu, started its match compactly and got off to a 3-8 start with a triple by Legnini. The hosts with Scali and Maggio operate the counter-break and fly 17-13.
Fallucca starts to get into the game by sealing the triple for 20-18. Murri’s action from outside follows for 26-29 and then Jovovic’s triple for 26-32. Luiss is in and they mean business.
Sant’Antimo pushes and puts energy on the parquet, but again Falluca twice from 3 keeps the hosts at a distance. It goes to rest 38-42.
The third quarter opens with two baskets in a row by Legnini, Scali responds on the other, followed by a triple by Fallucca and a nice basket by Barbon.
The game turns on, the defenses tighten up, but the percentages do not drop.
First Gloria from 3 brings Sant’Antino back down 51-53, then Barbon from three distances it by 5 points.
The hosts produce the maximum effort with two baskets by Gloria and a triple by Sgobba, flying 60-56. It goes to the final quarter at 64-61.

The tie comes thanks to a triple by Murri. The game gets tough and edgy. The referees have to intervene. Again a triple by Legnini and a nice basket by Jovovic launch Luiss 67-72.
The hosts struggle to find the basket and Luiss manages from the lunette flying 67-76, and then even to +13 at 70-83.
Sant’Antino came back 80-83 accomplice to some distractions by the university players and the usual fear of winning. An offensive rebound by Murri gives the winning free throws to Paccariè’s boys.
An undeserved and great team victory. Luiss thus closes out 2022 and flies to 18 points in the standings. The next match will be on January 7 at Palaluiss against Taranto.
