LUISS won the first edition of UNIBOAT RACE ROMA!
It’s a wormy autumn day, an unforgettable moment of challenge between young athletes. Along the Tevere’s banks Saturday the 28th October there was the first edition of UNIBOAT RACE ROMA, that seen as protagonists the rowing teams belonging to LUISS and Foro Italico Universities.
The show, sponsored by CONI and FIC, has gathered the enthusiasm of so many students, rushed to the Foro Italico’s Rowing Center to support their teams that has competed with a run of 500mt from Music’s Bridge to Duca D’aosta’s Bridge, giving life to the first competition between this two Italian university, born to bring to our country the magic of the historical race between Oxford and Cambridge which goes on scene from 187 years.
The first run was that of the rookie’s category, on 8 jole boat; to win the first round was the Foro Italico’s Team that closed the run with 8 seconds of advantage (1’ 58’’9 agaist 2’ 06’’2). Even the second round was won by Foro Italico (2’04’’ against 2’06’’4), the challenge closed with time of 4’02’’9 and 4’12’’6, so the Foro Italico’s rookie won against LUISS.
The second competition was won by LUISS beating the opponents with a total time of 3’24’’9 against 3’26’’6. Even in this case the first round was conquered by Foro Italico ‘cause to a technical problem of LUISS. The second round the LUISS crew swung the disadvantage closing the run and taking home the victory.
Fabio Pigozzi, Foro Italico’s rector, answering the question: “From what born the idea of this event?”, he declared: “Born from the sport tradition of boating already settled in other countries and in the wiliness to chance with other capital’s reality; the idea started the previous year with 0 edition, this is the real first and worth from who wants to study and play and carry on the concept of Dual Career, following the celebre quote mens sana in corpore sano”.
The professor Paolo Del Bene, Sportive Director of SSD LUISS, satisficed of the beautiful sport day, declared: “The UNIBOAT RACE is certainly a unique event in the capital that sees as protagonists two important universities that focus on sport activity; the Foro Italico, as we know, it’s a reality dedicated to sport; but thanks to the idea born from Professor Pessi, Prorector to LUISS didactics and of the LUISS Sport Academy Project, even we are living a beautiful reality with some important athletes such as Avola, Paltrinieri, Stefanini and some more that have the chance to study and play. It’s necessary to say that nowadays we are the first multisport Italian university reality, starting to work on this project from 1999. Now with the champions that study to LUISS we are following the American and Anglo-Saxon model, so we are giving some scholarship to top players. We hope that this event will became a must have and that in future will enjoy us some other university!”.
