B league basketball, Luiss Roma wins in the last minute over Avellino
On Sunday, Dec. 4, Luiss Roma played a great match: despite suffering on the court, it eventually got the better of Avellino 74-67 and climbed to 14 points in the standings behind Ruvo di Puglia and Caserta.
Paccariè’s boys start badly, still feeling the bitterness of the Cassino defeat, but they come to their senses and manage to play their basketball. The final is point to point, but this time, deservedly, the 2 points go to Luiss.
Luiss gets off to a foggy start and Avellino runs away 5-18. Murri and Pasqualin sound the charge. Perotti puts up the wall under the basket and Luiss gets ahead. It is actually a triple by Pasqualin that gives the first overtake to the university men 30-29. The game goes on on the sign of balance: first 40-40 and then 51-50 thanks to an invention by Murri.
We enter the last quarter. Jovovic plays well and brings us to 59-56. Perotti sets the Palaluiss on fire and Fallucca’s play makes it 62-59, but Avellino immediately responds from 3 with Vitale.
The ending is exciting and the game appears to be in a perfect tie.
Legnini then enters and immediately makes the 65-62 score from 3. But once again Avellino ties with a powerful triple. These are the last seconds of the game: Pasqualin unloads on Murri who scores the triple of the 70-67 Luiss lead. Avellino forces a triple with Vitale that slams on the iron and Pasqualin from the lunette closes 74-67 for Luiss Roma.
This week Luiss Roma will be busy with a midweek shift: Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 9 p.m. they play Ruvo di Puglia and then Saturday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Palaluiss against Pozzuoli.
