Women’s 5-a-side football, union makes strength: “Cohesion is our secret”.

  • 7 March 2019

We interviewed Antonio Mancino, Graziano Allera and Francesco Falanga, Team Manager of the women’s 5-a-side football team. They follow the team with attention and passion. But also with great pleasure, because the group is composed of players who give everything to achieve important goals. Working with them is very easy and just as stimulating, the words of the Team Managers.

Guys, let’s get started: what’s the most important of your next commitments?

Francesco: In two games we’ll meet Atletico Tirrena, the team that leads the league table and has always been a tough opponent. We’re close to the playoff area and we’ll have to do our best to try to recover some points.

How is the girls’ athletic preparation going?

Graziano: Considering that there is about a month to go before the end of the season, the preparation is going pretty well, despite the many injuries this year.

What are the goals already achieved?

Antonio: Surely the cohesion of the group is our secret. We have twelve girls who are very close and more aggressive than in previous years. It’s a really fantastic group and for us working with them is first of all a pleasure.

While what is the most important goal that you have set yourself and that has not yet been achieved?

Graziano: It seems trivial to say but the goal is definitely to reach the ranking position that the girls deserve. The personal growth of each of our athletes, however, is also fundamental and is a result that our group tries to achieve with great commitment.

What’s the mood in the locker room right now?

Francesco: Good. The group is always very compact. I can’t hide the fact that in the past we had a few small problems, but it has always been solved thanks to the maturity and intelligence of our girls.

How do your athletes manage to reconcile their study commitments with their sporting activities?

Antonio: They always try to be present. Clearly, during the exam period – especially in December and January – we suffer from some absence, but it is right to devote ourselves to study. However, they are very committed to reconciling all their commitments. And many of them also work.

Last question: what characterizes your role as a mediator between management, coach and athletes?

Francesco: Our objectives are common: victory, respect for the values that Luiss proposes and the support that we must always give to the coach, the athletes and the entire Sports Association.

A group to which we can only wish the best: strength girls, we all cheer for you!
