Luiss Probios women’s volleyball wins Serie D: word to Coach Marra

  • 12 June 2023

Coach Marra conquers Serie D with the Luiss Probios women’s volleyball team, after a season fought with tenacity. We wanted to ask him a few questions to understand how he succeeded with his girls in this great undertaking.

Coach, his team has been promoted to Serie D. Did you expect this result?

Nothing is ever predictable in volleyball, every match must be played, but I can say that I knew that the team was up to doing an excellent championship and aiming for promotion to Serie D.
I am extremely proud of my team. We have worked hard throughout the season to achieve this goal. We knew we were a strong and motivated group, at each race we put ourselves on the line to best express our sport.

What were the biggest difficulties encountered during this season?

Fortunately, there were no particular difficulties. I was very happy with the presence and commitment of the girls during training and matches. This has allowed us to work well and obtain a lot of satisfaction.

What does coaching a varsity team mean to you?

It’s an inspiring challenge. Coaching a college team is different from coaching a “typical” team in many ways. We need to pay attention to programming, but at the same time be flexible in understanding the needs of girls who are at Luiss to study and who are mostly off-site. However, they cannot fail to mention another strong point of a university team: the close relationship that is created between the girls who also attend the university and who live nearby. This year in particular I can say that they are very close, both on and off the pitch.

The next goals?

With a look to the future, the goal is to make a good Serie D championship. In the short term, certainly start working to better prepare for next season. This, however, not before a period of rest to allow the athletes to focus on their studies and regain their strength to start again stronger than before. However, the main concept is always the same: teamwork.
