Golden Collar for Giorgio Avola!

  • 19 December 2018

Today morning, 19 December 2018, the CONI Sports Honours were awarded by decision of the National Council.

In the presence of the Undersecretary of the Prime Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, the Golden Collar of Sports Merit, a prize established in 1995, was awarded to our student athlete Giorgio Avola, a multi-awarded athlete enrolled in the second year of Economics and Management, as well as the current Foil World Champion Team.

In thanking the audience, Giorgio testified that “[…] to be a student means to be a good athlete and to be a good athlete means to be a good student […]”. Once again we have evidence of how the conduct of sporting activity at a high level can be reconciled with a university education, how, therefore, is not a utopian thought because, in his words, “you can do”.

LUISS was the first Italian University to believe in the study-sport partnership, supporting students-athletes with scholarships for sporting merits and then establishing the LUISS Sport Academy, of which Giorgio Avola himself is part, which has in the Dual Carrer, academic and sports, its strength, and pride.
